He enlisted in the Army Air Corps in 1935 and commanded a B-17 squadron during World War II. In the 1950s, he served as the commander of Eglin Air Force Base in Florida. Throughout his career, Stanley was stationed in various international locations including Vienna, Paris, Egypt, and Berlin. He passed away on March 15, 2012, in Florida at the age of 104.
