Joel Rundell was an American musician, born on September 26, 1965, and best known as the lead guitarist of the alternative rock band Better Than Ezra, which he co-founded while attending Louisiana State University. The band's first album, Surprise, was released shortly before Rundell's tragic death by suicide on August 8, 1990. Following his passing, the band took a hiatus and later reformed as a trio. In 2016, his family and former band members initiated a legal dispute over the re-release of their first album.
