Johannes Nießen is a German physician specializing in general medicine, public health, and social medicine. He served as the head of the Cologne Health Department from 2019 until the end of 2023, the largest health office in Germany. He holds leadership positions including the chair of the Federal Association of Physicians in the Public Health Service (BVÖGD) and was appointed to the Federal Government's Corona Expert Council in December 2021. Nießen was tasked with establishing the Federal Institute for Prevention and Education in Medicine (BIPAM) set to commence in 2025.
