John A. Franks was an American businessman and Thoroughbred racehorse owner and breeder, born on April 21, 1925, in Haughton, Louisiana. He earned a geology degree from Louisiana State University, founded the successful Franks Petroleum Inc. in 1957, and later entered the real estate business with Franks Realty LLC. He sold his petroleum company to Sonat Inc. in 1989 and passed away on December 31, 2003.
