John Abizaid is a retired United States Army general who served as the former commander of U.S. Central Command and a former U.S. ambassador to Saudi Arabia. Born on April 1, 1951, he is the grandson of Lebanese immigrants and is fluent in Arabic, expressing a fondness for the Arab world. His grandparents immigrated from Mlikh, Lebanon, in 1915. Abizaid is a father of three and has a background in both military and academic achievements. He was appointed as the U.S. ambassador to Saudi Arabia in April 2019.
