John Adrian Fargher, known as J. A. Fargher, was a prominent Australian civil engineer and commissioner for the railways in South Australia from 1953 to 1966. He played a key role in modernizing the railway network, transitioning it from steam to diesel. Born in 1901 in Victoria, Fargher was educated in civil engineering and served in World War II as Honorary Lieutenant Colonel. He was also involved in designing significant infrastructure, including bridges and air raid shelters. Fargher was married to Elsie Pearl French and fathered three children. He passed away in 1977.
