John Alexander is a Scottish National Party (SNP) councillor and former Leader of Dundee City Council. First elected in the 2012 Scottish council election at the age of 23, he became Dundee's youngest serving councillor. Re-elected in 2017, he increased his vote share significantly and later formed an administration with Ian Borthwick. After the SNP's 2022 success, he returned as council leader, overseeing the only majority SNP administration in Scotland. Alexander announced his resignation plans for August 2024, set to leave office in September 2024.
