John Andrew Chemsak was an American entomologist born on February 19, 1932, in Ambridge, Pennsylvania. He pursued his studies in entomology, earning a B.S. in 1954 and an M.S. in 1956. Chemsak worked as a research assistant at the University of California - Berkeley and collaborated with E.G. Linsley on a monograph about the Cerambycidae of North America. He authored around 175 scientific articles, describing approximately 570 new species and proposing 64 new genera. He collected insects mainly in Mexico and Central America and had several species named after him.
