John Anthony Volpe was an American diplomat and politician, a member of the Republican Party. He served as the 61st and 63rd Governor of Massachusetts from 1961 to 1963 and 1965 to 1969. Additionally, he held the position of Secretary of Transportation from 1969 to 1973 and served as the United States Ambassador to Italy from 1973 to 1977. Born on December 8, 1908, he made significant contributions to both state and federal governance until his death on November 11, 1994.
