John Baird Tyson (1928–2014) was a British geography teacher and explorer known for mapping uncharted areas of the Himalayas. After attending Rugby School, he served in the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders during the Malayan Emergency, earning a Military Cross. Following his military service, he studied Geography at Oxford and led the first Oxford University Scientific Expedition to the Himalayas in 1952. Tyson held headmaster positions at Reed's School and Budhanilkantha School in Kathmandu, contributing significantly to education in the region before his passing in 2014.
