John Fleetwood Baker, Baron Baker (1901-1985) was a prominent British civil engineer and professor of structural mechanics at the University of Cambridge. After studying at Cambridge, he worked in aeronautics and developed a load theory for steel construction based on plasticity theory, which was crucial for engineering practices. He was a professor at Bristol University and later led the engineering faculty at Cambridge. Baker invented the Morrison indoor shelter during WWII. He received a life peerage in 1977 and was honored with an OBE and a Doctorate from the University of Edinburgh.
