He worked for Boeing for 32 years and became a quality manager involved in the assembly of the Boeing 787 Dreamliner. Barnett gained nationwide attention as a whistleblower, reporting issues such as personnel overwork and inadequate aircraft maintenance. He raised concerns about the oxygen systems on the Dreamliner, highlighting a 25% failure rate. Following his retirement, he sued Boeing for defamation. Barnett was found dead under circumstances suggesting suicide, amid ongoing legal proceedings.
