John Beeley was a British Army rifleman who posthumously received the Victoria Cross for his acts of bravery during World War II. At the age of 23, during Operation Crusader on 21 November 1941, he selflessly charged forward under enemy fire to disable an anti-tank gun and two machine-guns, which inspired his comrades to ultimately achieve their objective. Tragically, he was killed in the process. He is buried in Knightsbridge War Cemetery, Libya, and his VC is displayed at the Royal Green Jackets Museum in Winchester.
