John Emerson 'Johne' Binkley is a riverboat pilot, businessman, and Republican politician from Fairbanks, Alaska, born on February 4, 1953. He served one term each in the Alaska House of Representatives and Senate during the mid-late 1980s. Binkley is notable for his 2006 gubernatorial candidacy, finishing behind Sarah Palin but ahead of incumbent Frank Murkowski. In 2017, his son Ryan Binkley's company acquired the Anchorage Daily News. He was appointed chair of the Alaska Redistricting Board in 2020 by Senate President Cathy Giessel.
