John Lewis 'Stub' Brickels was a prominent football coach known for his roles in high school, college, and professionally with the Cleveland Browns. Starting his career in 1930 after graduating from Wittenberg University, he initially coached football and basketball in Ohio and West Virginia. In 1944, he became the head basketball coach at West Virginia University. From 1946 to 1948, he served as the backfield coach for the Cleveland Browns. Later, he worked at Miami University as head basketball coach and athletic director until his death in 1964.
