John Butler Walden was a Tanzanian military officer born in 1939 in British Tanganyika. After finishing school, he enlisted in the King's African Rifles in 1957. Over the years, he rose through the ranks, becoming a lieutenant in 1963 and later a brigadier during the Uganda–Tanzania War. In 1987, he was promoted to major general. He played key roles in military operations, including overseeing the withdrawal of troops from Uganda and an anti-poaching initiative. Walden passed away in 2002.
