John C. Begovich was an American politician and Army veteran, born on January 17, 1916, in Jackson Gate, CA. He served in the California State Senate from 1961 to 1967 and was a U.S. Marshal from 1966 to 1970. A World War II hero, he fought in North Africa, Sicily, Italy, and France, earning multiple honors for his bravery. Begovich was a member of the Amador County Board of Supervisors from 1977 to 1996, and a highway in California is named in his memory. He passed away on November 2, 1999.
