John Charles Squires was a United States Army soldier and Medal of Honor recipient who served during World War II. He was born on May 19, 1925, in Louisville, Kentucky and joined the Army in July 1943. Serving as a private first class, he displayed exceptional bravery during a battle near Padiglione, Italy, on April 23, 1944. Squires was posthumously promoted to Sergeant and awarded the Medal of Honor on October 2, 1944, following his death in action a month later. He is buried in Zachary Taylor National Cemetery.
