John M. Chun was a pioneering Korean automotive engineering designer, known as the first Korean car designer. Born in 1928 in what is now North Korea, he moved to South Korea post-Korean War and later immigrated to the United States. Chun studied at Art Center College of Design, working as a mechanic. He designed iconic models such as the 1968 and 1969 Shelby Mustang Cobras. After a varied career, including consulting for Hyundai and designing toy cars for Tonka Toys, he owned a restaurant in Minnesota until his death in 2013.
