He was born in Utica on December 28, 1929, and served as an Army veteran during the Korean War. Later, he operated a hardware store in Utica and worked as a painting contractor. Cole was involved in his community through St. Peter's Church and the Knights of Columbus, and he passed away on March 4, 1993.
