John Connally was an American politician who served as the 39th governor of Texas and the 61st Secretary of the Treasury. Born in Floresville, Texas, Connally began his political career as a Democrat before switching to the Republican Party in 1973. He served in World War II and later became an aide to Senator Lyndon Johnson. Connally was appointed Secretary of the Navy by President John F. Kennedy and later became Texas governor. He was injured in the Kennedy assassination and later served in Nixon's cabinet, overseeing significant economic changes before retiring from public office.
