John Culhane was an American journalist, author, and Disney animation historian born in 1934 in Rockford, Illinois. He is recognized for inspiring the character Mr. Snoops in the animated feature The Rescuers (1977) and John in the Rhapsody in Blue segment of Fantasia 2000 (1999). He taught animation history for 40 years at various institutions in New York, including the School of Visual Arts and Mercy College, before passing away on July 31, 2015, in Dobbs Ferry, New York, at the age of 81.
