John Edward Lancelot Peck (1918-2013) was a pioneering computer scientist who served as the first permanent Head of the Department of Computer Science at the University of British Columbia from 1969 to 1977. He contributed significantly to the ALGOL 68 programming language as an editor of the original report and co-authored the revised version. Prior to his tenure at UBC, he was the inaugural Head of the Math Department at the University of Calgary and has numerous publications indexed by DBLP and the Computer History Museum.
