John Eldridge (1936-2022) was a British sociologist renowned for his contributions to Industrial Sociology and studies on Max Weber. He helped establish the Glasgow Media Group and served as a professor emeritus at the University of Glasgow, as well as a visiting professor at the University of Strathclyde. Eldridge was President of the British Sociological Association from 1979 to 1981. Born in Southampton, he survived World War II bombings and excelled academically, earning degrees from the University of London and Leicester University. He was a dedicated Methodist local preacher until his passing.
