John Elvin Shaffner was a prominent businessman and political figure in Nova Scotia, serving as the 26th Lieutenant Governor from 1978 to 1984. Born on March 3, 1911, in Lawrencetown, he was educated at Acadia University and Bentley School in Boston. His career included being president of 7 Up Maritimes Ltd. and a chartered accountant. Shaffner also served as the agent-general for Nova Scotia in the UK and Europe. He married Nell Margaret Potter in 1936. Shaffner passed away on June 11, 2001, at the age of 90.
