John E. Goldmark was an American politician who served as a Democrat in the Washington House of Representatives from 1956 to 1962. During his tenure, he chaired the Ways and Means Committee. In 1962, he filed a libel case against several parties for editorials suggesting he and his wife were sympathetic to the Communist Party. Although he initially won the case and was awarded $40,000 in damages, the award was later overturned by a Supreme Court ruling in New York Times Co. v. Sullivan.
