John Gwitira was a Zimbabwean veterans' activist and politician, known for his role as the first chairman of the Zimbabwe National Liberation War Veterans Association (ZNLWVA) from 1989 to 1997. Born on 17 October 1949, Gwitira joined the Zimbabwe African National Liberation Army in 1970 and fought in the Rhodesian Bush War. After the war, he advocated for veterans' rights amid discontent over government support. He continued to influence veterans' affairs even after stepping down as chairman and sought political office in 2016.
