John W. Holter (1916–2003) was an American toolmaker who worked at Yale and Town Lock Company. He is best known for inventing the Spitz-Holter valve, a significant medical device for treating hydrocephalus, following the challenges faced by his son, Casey, who suffered from severe spina bifida and meningitis. Despite losing Casey, Holter's invention has provided ongoing support to millions globally since the late 1950s.
