John Frederick Jarvis-Smith (1924–2015) was a British shipbroker and oil trader recognized for his heroism during World War II, where he earned the Distinguished Service Cross. Born in south London, he joined the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve in 1941, serving valiantly on D-Day and in Operation Infatuate. After the war, he had a successful career in oil trading and shipbroking. In retirement, he split his time between the UK and the French Riviera, becoming familiar with its social elite. He was also active in politics and charitable fundraising in his later years.
