John Joseph Parle was a United States Naval Reserve officer honored posthumously with the Medal of Honor for his courageous actions during World War II. He graduated ROTC from Creighton University in 1942. On July 9, 1943, while preparing for the Allied invasion of Sicily, Parle bravely extinguished a fire on a boat loaded with explosives, which could have compromised the invasion. He tragically succumbed to smoke inhalation shortly after this heroic act. Parle was only 23 years old at the time of his death.
