A long-time member of Harvard University's faculty, he authored fourteen books, including key economic texts like 'American Capitalism' and 'The Affluent Society.' Active in Democratic politics, he served in the administrations of Franklin D. Roosevelt, Harry Truman, and John F. Kennedy, and was the U.S. Ambassador to India.
