John L. Cashin, Jr. (1928-2011) was an American dentist, civil rights activist, and founder of the National Democratic Party of Alabama. He was born in Huntsville, Alabama, and earned degrees from Tennessee State University and Meharry Medical College. Cashin, a member of the Army Dental Corps from 1955 to 1957, unsuccessfully ran for governor of Alabama against George Wallace in 1970. He was a prominent figure in local politics and civil rights activism until his death from pneumonia in 2011.
