John Ross Letford MBE is a Scottish politician born on March 5, 1935. He is best known for serving as the Lord Provost of Dundee, a role he held for eleven years, making him the longest-serving civic head in the UK since the nineteenth century. Letford was elected as Lord Provost in June 2001 and re-elected after the 2007 local elections. He has also been a councillor in Lochee and was involved with Dundee City Council since 1994. In 2012, he was appointed MBE for services to local government and published his autobiography in 2016.
