John Loret was an American marine biologist and explorer known for his significant contributions to marine science and education. He taught at Queens College, directed the Long Island Science Museum, and led expeditions in the 1980s to discover Mayan temples in Mexico. Notably, he mapped parts of Mexico before the advent of satellite imagery. A veteran of the U.S. Coast Guard, he earned his Ph.D. from the University of Connecticut in 1974 and was a prominent member of The Explorers Club.
