John Streeter Manifold (1915–1985) was an influential Australian poet and critic known for his early participation in leftist literary movements. Born in Melbourne, he studied at Geelong Grammar and Jesus College, Cambridge, where he joined the Communist Party. He served in British Army intelligence during WWII and was a published war poet. After returning to Australia in 1949, he founded the Realist Writers Group and focused on promoting Australian songs and music. He was honored as a Member of the Order of Australia in 1984 for his literary contributions. Manifold died in Brisbane.
