John O'Donnell was an Australian rules footballer born on June 8, 1947. He played with St Kilda in the Victorian Football League (VFL). O'Donnell suffered a significant knee injury after successfully taking a high mark over Ross Dunne, leading to a severe infection from surgery. Tragically, this infection prevented him from resuming his career in the VFL. His cousin, Simon O'Donnell, is notable for being an Australian cricketer and also played VFL football for St Kilda.
