Pelham became the Earl at age fourteen following his brother’s death. He served in various diplomatic roles in the 1930s and fought in World War II, achieving the rank of Captain in the Scots Guards. Tragically, he died in a road accident in 1944 while on active service, leaving behind a wife and two children.
