John Pemberton FRCP (1912-2010) was a British epidemiologist known for his contributions to social and preventive medicine. Born in Romford, Essex, he studied at Christ's Hospital and University College London, qualifying in medicine in 1936. During World War II, he was exempt from military service due to tuberculosis. Pemberton became a professor at Queen's University Belfast in 1958 and was active in founding the Society for Social Medicine and the International Epidemiological Association. He retired in 1976, and he passed away on February 7, 2010.
