John Peter Collett, born May 13, 1953, in Drammen, is a professor of history at the University of Oslo. Initially active in student politics, he became the first chairman of the Norwegian High School Student Organization in 1971. He changed his surname from Moen to Collett while studying history. Collett earned his degree in history in 1983 and held several academic positions, including assistant and researcher from 1984 to 1991, and professor since 2001. His research focuses on modern history and the history of universities and education in the 19th and 20th centuries.
