John Plagis (1919-1974) was a notable Greek pilot who fought with the Royal Air Force (RAF) during World War II. He was awarded the Distinguished Service Order (DSO) and the Distinguished Flying Cross with Bar (DFC & Bar) for his 19 confirmed kills and rose to the rank of wing commander. After 1945, he acquired Rhodesian citizenship and continued to serve in the RAF piloting Gloster Meteor jets until his retirement in 1948. In Rhodesia, a boulevard was named in his honor. He passed away in 1974.
