Born on 24 November 1925 in Colombo, Ceylon, he gained prominence while working at Reuters in Moscow, where he uncovered details of Nikita Khrushchev's 'Secret Speech' in 1956. He reported extensively on key Cold War events from regions including the Soviet Union and Latin America. Additionally, in 1964, he ran for parliamentary office as the Liberal candidate for Middlesbrough West but was not elected. He passed away on 11 January 2009.
