John Alex 'Eck' Rose is a former Kentucky politician born on June 1, 1940. He served in the Kentucky State Senate representing the 28th District and was the last President Pro Tempore of the Senate before a constitutional change in 1992. In 1993, he became the first President of the Kentucky Senate, holding the position until 1997. Rose ran for Governor of Kentucky in 1995, finishing third in the Democratic primary. He received 71,740 votes, while Paul E. Patton won the primary and the general election.
