John Donald Rose was a British industrial chemist born on January 2, 1911. He had a prolific career at Imperial Chemical Industries from 1935 until 1972, climbing the ranks to director of research and chairman of the paints division. He contributed significantly to the development of nylon, Procion dyes, and Terylene. Educated at Oxford, he also held leadership roles in various chemical organizations, including the Society of Chemical Industry. Rose passed away on October 14, 1976. His scientific contributions were recognized by his election as a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1971.
