John S. Arrowood is an American attorney and judge, born on November 4, 1956. He was appointed to the North Carolina Court of Appeals in April 2017 by Governor Roy Cooper, filling the vacancy left by Judge Douglas McCullough. In 2018, he ran for and won a full term, making history as the first openly gay person elected to a statewide office in North Carolina. He had previously been appointed to the Court of Appeals in August 2007 but was defeated in the 2008 election.
