John S. Kem is a retired major general of the United States Army, known for serving as the 51st Commandant of the United States Army War College from July 28, 2017, to July 30, 2020. He previously held significant roles including the 1st provost of the Army University and deputy commanding general for education at the U.S. Army Combined Arms Center. Kem is a graduate of the United States Military Academy with degrees in civil engineering and environmental engineering, along with an MBA from Northwestern University. He is also a Chartered Financial Analyst and a licensed professional engineer.
