John Alexander Short is a Hong Kong-based Australian Christian missionary known for his arrest in North Korea in 2014 and subsequent release 15 days later. He was born in Barmera, South Australia, and worked as a dental technician before moving to Hong Kong in 1964 to do missionary work. He established several churches in Hong Kong and later expanded his work into mainland China, where he was arrested on several occasions. In 2014, he was arrested in North Korea for leaving Christian pamphlets at a Buddhist temple in Pyongyang. He was released after 15 days and said he was interrogated daily during his detention.
