John Shorter Stevens was an American politician and lawyer from North Carolina, born on May 30, 1933. He attended the University of North Carolina and served in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Stevens practiced law and cofounded Roberts & Stevens. A member of the Democratic Party, he was elected to the North Carolina House of Representatives from 1969 to 1975. He authored a book on Buncombe County history and was inducted into the North Carolina Bar Association's Hall of Fame in 2013. Stevens passed away from cancer on April 23, 2019, at age 85.
