John Stayton Simonton Jr. was an American circuit designer and founder of PAiA Electronics, known for manufacturing analog synthesizer kits. He graduated in 1965 from Louisiana Tech University with degrees in electrical engineering and psychology. Simonton worked on the first computerized jet engine test facility at Tinker Air Force Base. He published Polyphony magazine in 1975, which evolved into Electronic Musician. Diagnosed with esophageal cancer in 2004, he passed away in 2005 while residing in Arcadia, Oklahoma.
