John Young Squires (1912-2006) was an influential American men's soccer coach who led the Connecticut Huskies from 1937-41 and again from 1946-68. Though the seasons from 1943-45 were canceled due to World War II, he remained a vital figure in collegiate soccer. A well-educated individual, Squires earned his master's and doctorate in physical education, serving as a professor and teaching sports like soccer and swimming. He organized the first NCAA Soccer Championship and was active in the Norwalk YMCA. He passed away at 94, leaving a significant legacy in sports.
