John St Clair Muriel (7 April 1909 – 1975) was a British countryman, teacher, novelist, and biographer. He used the pseudonyms 'Simon Dewes' and 'John Lindsey.' Drawing from his own experiences, he authored four autobiographical volumes based on his youth in Suffolk and Essex. His biographies were noted for their readability rather than authority, and he produced three works exploring London's history. Muriel's fiction included thrillers and serious novels, with some banned in the Republic of Ireland. He also wrote poetry and short stories, with his last work being a true crime book titled 'Doctors of Murder' (1962).
